ABOUT KATRINA: After spending 3 years care-taking the legendary historic heritage site, Cougar Annie's off-the-grid homestead and garden in the Clayoquot Sound, Tofino, BC., Katrina created Cougar Annie Tales, a 65 minute play channeling Ada Annie Lawson and the fascinating characters involved in her life. Katrina’s creative talent, sensitivity to place, ability to channel characters and her passion for history make her a wonderful choice for curating The Waterman's Daughter piece on the Lower Shore. Katrina is also a touring recording artist, singer, songwriter and guitarist.

"A confident performer who has created a well-polished cultural addition to Vancouver Island's heritage." - Times Colonist, Victoria, BC Friday

2016 Somerset County Summer Arts & Education Programs:

The 5th L at Somerset Intermediate School

April 18, 2023

ON WBOC:  http://www.wboc.com/clip/11885814/travels-with-charlie-hip-hop-edition

Baltimore Living Legends, The 5th L bring their vibrant spoken word/hip hop/poetry to Somerset Intermediate School. The performance includes entertaining, thought-provoking poems with a range of topics that cover social awareness of current events to playful memories of being a kid growing up in United States and abroad. It also provides commentary relevant to student and community life from local and foreign perspectives. We believe this program will be catalyst in providing individuals with a tangible means of effective communication with their peers and loved ones by sharing their thoughts; an easy format to convey self-expression, paired with an honest account of self reflection, which ultimately unveils a thought-provoking sense of self awareness.

"...wonderful.  David and Femi immediately connected with the students and captivated their attention throughout the performance.  Most students were unfamiliar with spoken word poetry and the performance opened their eyes to new possibilities in their own writing.  Their message was perfect for middle school students; a little bit of emotion, a little bit of humor and a little bit of "crazy".  The performance was truly the best I have experienced in 15 years as an educator.  I would highly recommend it to any school.  I'm looking forward to having The 5th back year after year."

Music & Math with Jennifer Daniels

August 25, 2016

JENNIFER WILL BE DOING 3 PROGRAMS ON 8/25:
Princess Anne Elementary
Woodson Elementary
Greenwood Elementary

for the Somerset County Board of Education Back to School OPEN HOUSE

- With guitar in hand, Jennifer will play an interactive show full of songs and stories that help kids to EXPERIENCE and PRACTICE mathematical concepts. We will match pitch and rhythms, and count beats in creative, fun ways. We will sort and play instruments according to one and two classifications. We will make shapes on a Stretchy Band, while we sequence patterns of music. There will be cumulative songs and stories so that we can add (and subtract). As well as a number line of little bodies, so that we can visualize these concepts. We’ll project a picture book as we perform it, so that we can see the simple equations written out. Participants’ parents and teachers will be directed to free online access to songs and activities from The Learning Groove music and movement curriculum.
